Literature Text

At last summer's here we say with a cheer,
for us it's the best time of the year
to see the swifts as they fly so high
up into the endless deep blue sky.

We see no need for them to land,
as we shade our eyes with our hand,
watching them late into the evening,
when the air pressure is low and a few clouds appear,
we can hear the swifts call, that beautiful sound,
as they feed on the wing and not on the ground.

They only land and shelter together,
when we have wet and stormy weather,
not on roofs, or even in trees,
but in warm, dark safeness under the eaves,
or in a swiftbox on the side of a house wall,
would be a good refuge for them all,
it should be within their line of flight
for easy access on a dark wet night.

And early morning when the skies are clear
we will be happy to once again hear
the swifts call, but now from afar,
our summer's over,
so they have started on their long journey,
back to Africa.

Still feeding on the wing, such a brilliant thing,
for a wonderful bird,
and as they near home,
it will be almost a year until again they roam,
and once again their call will be heard…

A Poem or maybe song lyrics about the Swifts flight,
their long journey from Africa,
and how we could do more to help these beautifull birds,
as they are sadly in decline.......

Where did you take this from tumblr, because it looks like you copied a bit too much at the bottom.
